NASP questionnaire on the New Test

NASP (National associations strategic partnership) who represent our views via ADINJC when it meets with DVSA and they would like to know members views on the new driving test. Please complete the following questionnaire

New test routes

We had a discussion regarding any changes to the test routes. When the new test was introduced it was said that the sat nav would allow more country roads and higher speed limit roads to be used on test. Before Christmas members had mentioned about a test route around Bebington/Clatterbride and Brimstage. This maybe was being trialled as no one seems to have had that route since. Many of the routes now are very similar to old routes, but using the sat nav now rather than the examiner giving directions.

Any issues with new test

Members present at the meeting had no real issues with the new test or the way it has been conducted or the new manoeuvres or sat nav. There had been an issue with a sat nav on a test in Chester and some queries over the placing of the sat nav inside ADI’s Cars, but other than that no problems.

Pull up in right

One of the main concerns amongst instructors before the introduction of the new test was the new manoeuvre of pulling up on the right and reversing. Again no issues with this. One ADI mentioned that their pupil had failed on the reverse part of this manoeuvre as they had drifted out away from the kerb on the reverse part and had finished closer to the centre of the road. The areas examiners have been choosing have all seemed safe and reasonable as far as we can see.

DVSA announcement

Earlier last month the DVSA made an announcement which annoyed many ADI’s in the way that it was worded. Whilst we agree in principal with what they are saying about safeguarding young people the wording and phrases could have been much better. This was all publicised in the media and as is often the case blown out of proportion, this seems to have died down since the publication as many items in the media do.

Since the blog was published a further announcement was made by ADINJC

And then a statement from DVSA Chief Driving Examiner, Lesley Young

Learners on Motorways

As of the time of the meeting, the DVSA have announced the date from which Learner drivers will be allowed on motorways. This will be from 4th June of this year when learners will be allowed on motorways with an ADI in a dual controlled vehicle.

Other Business

As a group we had an open forum discussing amongst other things lesson prices. There is an ADI in Chester area charging upto £35per hour for lessons. But they are based in an affluent area outside Chester with little completion from other ADIs.

In car cameras

Brian asked if anyone had any issues from examiners in switching off in car cameras. No one present had and he will speak with Pete to see if there were any issues we should be aware of (other than the fact that it must not record voices or inside the car)

LDTM Surgery

Pete has his next surgery at Upton on Monday 5th March at 3:45pm

Brian asked the group if there were any points they would like raised with Pete at the meeting and there were no issues. We will feedback any information from Pete following the meeting.

Driving Instructor Show in April at Manchester

We discussed the Driving Instructor Show which is taking place in Manchester at Bowlers Exhibition Centre (opposite the Trafford Centre) on Sunday 29th April
